Santa Paws, Robots, Polar Bears & Other Holiday Magic!!

Something in the air brings joy, festive feelings and lots of support this time of year. Our spaces look fun and inviting—thanks to Polar Bear donors & our amazing partners at the Junior League of Oklahoma City. We’ve dressed up our facility therapy dogs for Christmas card cuteness. Early gifts arrived from Teammates for Kids. ROBOTS! Engaging kids who cannot leave their rooms to play just got a lot easier.

This time of year I must force myself to stop, breath and reflect on major changes and growth at the hospital and within The Children’s Hospital VOLUNTEERS.

Back in February, the hospital transitioned to become OU Medicine Inc., an independent and non-profit hospital.  Over the summer, we began hiring some amazing new Child Life Specialist partners—now the largest and most experienced team in Oklahoma with more than 20 staff.

We formed new partnerships to bring huge monthly events to our atrium, in addition to events in The Zone. We welcomed Dany and Ned, our new Paws for Purpose teammates—growing, in two years, the first facility therapy dog hospital program in the state from one dog to three!  Finally… breath again… over the last few weeks we moved, making way for an expanding Pediatric Intensive Care Unit to support twice as many kids.

Things are always changing but we continue to stick to our purpose… We help kids feel like kids. Your help ensures that each new patient gets a toy from the Toy Cart and cool technologies are can improve the ways we play in The Zone. Your smile helps make the hospital a little less scary. Thank you—for your time, your resources, your generosity and for sharing your hearts. We love what we do. We love that we get to work with you.

With gratitude & warm holiday wishes,

Sara Jacobson
